The World War II variant of the Captain America statue exhibits the same, excellent sculpt of the Classic version, but it pays tribute to the original traits of the American supersoldier, with the old, three-pointed version of the shield and the open mask on face. The statue was sculpted by Randy Bowen and released in 2007, with a rather limited run of only 800 samples. Steve Rogers stands proudly erect in a typical mueseum pose, with feet slightly apart and fists clenched, the head just rotated and (oppositely to the Classic) the shield at the left arm. The sculpt is faithful to the original Comics and reminds (as in many other pieces sculpted by Bowen) the style of John Buscema. The physique is powerful and well proportioned, with a large rib cage and hyper-defined pectorals, biceps and quadriceps. The mask, here exhibiting a rather small "A" on forehead and the typical protruding side fins, leaves uncovered the central part of the face, the ears and the neck; two rounded contours lies on cheeks and point out the openings for the well known blue eyes of Steve Rogers. The gloves and boots have the classic high lapels and some scales are sketched here and there on the bust, sculpted with a great craftsmanship. The blue and red tones used for the costume are very attractive and a little bit glossy compared to the Classic version, with many color shades highlighting the muscle contours and the folds of suit's tissue everywhere. The size and the curvature of the shield are perfect: three white stars on a background blue color stand out on the three-pointed top, while the red and white vertical strips of the American flag complete the shield up to the bottom vertex. Also this version is equipped with two cylindrical bases: the first is rather high, with equidistant silver stars located on the lateral surface, while the second is lower and shows (in the support plane) the classic and charming coat of arms of the Unites States: an eagle clawing an olive branch and arrows, signifying the willingness of the people to peace, but also the determination to defend their rights and freedom. A further, attractive piece devoted to this amazing key-character of the Marvel Universe and an unmissable collectible for all fans of Captain America!
